The Final 100 Days: October 31, 1918 - Preparing for Valenciennes
/Canadian Forces continued to assemble around Valenciennes, anxiously anticipating the forthcoming assault on the city.
Brigadier General Andrew McNaughton continued to amass artillery around the dominating visage of Mont Houy. McNaughton planned to smother the German front with a huge amount of artillery. Capturing Mont Houy and Valenciennes itself would be a difficult task, and the Canadians preferred to pay the cost in shells, as opposed to their men’s lives.
The kickoff time for the operation was slated for 5:15 AM, November 1st.
