May 1, 2017 - Brig.-Gen. Derek Macaulay has officially taken over command of the 5th Canadian Division in Halifax.
Macaulay earned the promotion at a ceremony at Citadel Hill Monday morning.
Maj.-Gen. Carl Turenne gave up the post after accepting a promotion of his own. Turenne will assume the role of Deputy Commander of the Canadian Army at Canadian Army Headquarters in Ottawa in early May.
“I am honoured and proud to have been at the helm of the 5th Canadian Division over the past two years — a tremendous team that has built and sustained operational and institutional readiness for the Canadian Armed Forces,” said Turenne in a news release.
Macaulay most recently served as Chief of Staff Army Strategy and has held various command and staff positions in Canada and on international operations.
Macaulay will be responsible for both regular and reserve force Canadian Army units located throughout all four Atlantic Provinces.
The 5th Canadian Division is the command element of the Canadian Army in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador.
