Memorial Cross – Poem by NSLA Volunteer Amy Hrynchuk
Memorial Cross
"I wear my medals now not for myself,
but for them that couldn't see their medals,
never seen their medals. I have to remind people,
whoever; whenever I can."
- Percy Howard, Regina Rifle Regiment
(War Story 'Liberation' S1E24)
They fought for their country, their families.
They fought alongside their brothers.
Together as one, they fought for our freedom.
Some came home after the fighting,
some even came home during the fighting.
Sadly, many more did not make it home.
They fought for their country, their families.
They fought alongside their brothers.
Together as one, they fought for our freedom.
We must fight our own battles
to ensure that those who fought so selfishly for us
do not get forgotten as they grow old and fewer.
They fought for their country, their families.
They fought alongside their brothers.
Together as one, they fought for our freedom.
Our duty is to hear these stories,
remember these stories, even the names
and pass them on so those medals never lose meaning.
They fought for their country, their families.
They fought alongside their brothers.
Together as one, they fought for our freedom.
For those who were never able to see their medals
We must now take up those medals from those who have
and share them with whoever we can, whenever we can.
