The Final 100 Days: August 29, 1918
73 Days Until Armistice
After enduring another day of brutal fighting, the beleaguered 2nd Division was relieved by the 1st Canadian Division, while the 4th British Division swapped spots with the 3rd Canadian Division.
The impact of the fresh troops cannot be understated. The objectives assigned to the 1st Brigade had achieved all of their objectives by 7 am, and steady gains were made along the line. However, incessant artillery and machine gun fire from the German lines made it difficult to leave the trench, even to evacuate the wounded. Despite the strength of the German attack, the Canadian line held firm.
